Groklaw has an interesting discussion on the EC-Microsoft decision and various FOSS entities-
FOSS community citizen, Jeremy Allison, writes - "I've been working on this case along with Volker since the beginning. I took a two year hiatus while I was working for Novell but I'm now back on the case, and I work for Google."
...
Because what they [Microsoft] do is very, very effective. I mean, the thing to remember is, yes, we won in court, but essentially we're losing in the marketplace..." I guess the FOSS revolution is moving into the court room after losing in the market. And has the FOSS movement considered improving its business model?
Another interesting remark from the FOSS community- I'd also like to thank the lawyers for the commission who put in such a fantastic effort, right from the commissioner, Neelie Kroes, who stood up to a huge amount of political pressure, to the commission lawyers who wrote the thousands of pages of complex legal arguments, and the many extremely hard working lawyers from Clifford Chance who supported the interveners (such as the FSFE). I thought the FOSS movement was some kind of grassroots effort. Its good someone helped the FOSS community pay the tab for a firm that bills like Clifford Chance.
