Vnunet reports on Red Hat's splendid fiscal year performance- Open source software provider Red Hat has seen a sharp rise in year-on-year second-quarter profits thanks to increased revenues from its Linux operating system subscriptions. Fantastic!!! Now the firm can stop trying to cover its back by downplaying the importance of capital and profit motive.[interview with Michael Tiemann] I think the reason why open source has not been corrupted by capital is because capital is almost irrelevant to open source. I'm still awaiting news on whether Red Hat's business performance has improved free culture or the freedom to tinker in any appreciable way.
