Tim Swanson from the Mises Institute critiques applying Libertarian values to FOSS-
...in practice the development of FOSS really is not a philosophy per se but rather a business/distribution model. And its cornucopia of offerings were originally designed to work within the framework of an IP regime...One of the perplexing things about the FOSS movement is how its supporters would limit business models and technical advances in the name of four freedoms, and now Libertarian philosophy (which I've found can resemble left wing proletariate battle cries). Technology is utilitarian, it needs to work well, people don't pray to technology. Of course, I've thought about proposing legislation to make drug tests mandatory for those who do.
...
...libertarianism is not a philosophy developed to justify a specific business model let alone code development/distribution.
