Universities and Innovation

Congressional Innovation Discussion on University Startups
Mansfield Room of the U.S. Capitol Building (Room S-207)
April 19, 2007 (Thursday), 12 - 1:30 pm

Hosted by the National Council of Entrepreneurial Tech Transfer (NCET2.org), with the Congressional Internet Caucus Advisory Committee to introduce Congressional staffers who track technology policy to leaders in technological innovation.

To attend, please RSVP at www.ncet2.org/RSVP [case sensitive]. FREE, but space is limited to 75 attendees, so priority seating will be given to senior university officials, university technology managers and venture capitalists. [JVD Note: a little glitch there -- I would have thought that maybe Congressional staff would get priority.]

Blurb:

Each year universities receive close to $40 billion in federal funding for R&D investments that promote the improvement of the national innovation economy. The panel will explore "how universities create tech transfer startups in their communities [that] produce high paying jobs, increase American competitiveness and improve the quality of life of U.S. citizens."

Panelists include:

*Michael Chasen, CEO and co-founder, Blackboard (a public company started at a university, and which has acquired other university startups)

*John Fraser, Past President, Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM)

* Bill Tucker, Executive Director, Research Administration and Technology Transfer, University of California, Office of the President

* Tony Stanco, Director, National Council of Entrepreneurial Tech Transfer (NCET2.org)
