More EU Antics with Apple

A short article from the WSJ Europe about antitrust antics with Apple. Subscribers only for the full editorial. I quote a tidbit:

an antitrust investigation against Apple is inappropriate. Article 81 of the EU treaty, under which Ms. Kroes proposes sanctioning these companies, prohibits actions that "have as their object or effect the prevention, restriction or distortion of competition within the common market." Since iTunes's arrangement with the record companies has no bearing on other music retailers, online or otherwise, it's difficult to see how Apple is harming competition. Unless, that is, iTunes is expected to compete with itself -- not that we want to give EU regulators any more bad ideas.
