WSJ Online looks at "Policing Web Video With Fingerprints." At least 12 different companies are working on technologies, which, while imperfect, are highly promising.

It is difficult to think of any dimension of the copyright debate that will not be substantially transformed as fingerprinting technologies come on line -- and that they will come on line is as certain as death and taxes.

Now if only micropayments technology catches up, the Millennium will be at hand.
