The EU Should Read Its History Books

Hance Haney from the Discovery Institute has an insightful post on the EU's evolving mercantilist legacy. Now, the Europeans don't travel to take wealth from other parts of the world, they let others come to them before having their way.

After accusing Microsoft of market dominance for commanding a mere 34% of the server market in the aggregate, European Union regulators have turned their attention to other successful American companies. Qualcomm, which offers discounts on bundled products, and Intel, which offers volume discounts, are both under investigation as a result of complaints the EU has received from American and European competitors. This is because the current generation of European leaders, like their mercantilist forbears, possess a vision of finite possibilities in which one country’s success comes at the expense of another’s.

Amusing that you used the word "evolving" in relationship to something the Discovery Institute put out.

Commons, the Discovery Institute does some very good work in technology policy. They're one of few organizations that balance the interests of consumers and industry.

Maybe or maybe not, but I can still be snarky. Besides, it's very difficult for me to take what they say with anything but a grain of salt. It would be like PFF dedicating a section to arguing that language should be copyrighted; so absurd that anything reasonable you guys had to say would be clouded over.
