Braden Cox, Policy and Research Counsel at the Association for Competitive Technology, has written the first three installments of a series in which he puts the recent EC FLOSS study under a microscope.
Go FLOSS, Innovate, Beat the U.S- on how the report is not any kind of TCO analysis or comparison of different software licensing/development models, but a calll to arms for the EU to leverage FOSS as a way of competing in ICT markets against the US. I guess some plan is better than none.
Singing the Praises of FLOSS to Create the Next European Idol- on how the EC may be effectively setting industrial policy by citing their own mandates for FOSS as evidence of its viability, rather than entrusting the market. Reminds me of a dog chasing its tail...
Where are the FLOSS developers?- on information inconsistencies in the report, but I guess the EC didn’t really think anybody would actually read the study.
