Chief Executive Larry Ellison . . . posed a challenge to Linux software leader Red Hat Inc.. . . late Wednesday by announcing that Oracle . . . would begin offering maintenance services for Red Hat products - and charge less for that than Red Hat does. . . . Oracle expects to offer discounts of at least 50 percent. As this site notes often, large, established firms do not necessarily favor IP rights; they have other forms of market power. IP rights are necessary for smaller firms and individuals to level the field. Forbes added:
