Good Morning, Silicon Valley mourns:
There's a reason why money burns a hole in your pocket -- it's corrosive. And one of the interesting things to watch in the transition of the Net from a co-op to a mall is the corrosive effect of money on what began as communal communication. Read the story for details.
But I am baffled by the naivete that assumes that the Internet was somehow exempt from the rules of human nature, and that this sort of gaming the system would not happen. I am also baffled by the fact that GMSV is condemnatory of the behavior it describes, but it never met a theft of intellectual property of which it did not approve. In my ethical book, that is a much worse offense against the community than a few paid blogs, which are pretty peripheral.
