How does a nation with renowned science/technology programs, an educated workforce and a mass consumer market, not respect IP rights? An article in TechNewsWorld addresses the issue with piracy in China: piracy is rampant because China does not itself produce IP.
The article quotes an IP attorney in Chicago: ‘Until China becomes more of a producer of IP, I suspect that it won't become more responsive to the issue… since it's not producing very much IP, piracy is no skin off its back.” China has a very low number of international patent filings in comparison to other nations. The article cites that this may indicate“there's not much technological innovation coming out of China today... They're not a producer... They're a copier of IP..”
