A Federal district judge has ruled that Google is infringing on copyrights held by "Perfect 10, an adult-oriented Web site featuring 'beautiful natural women' in the nude," by using its image search function to create and display thumbnail versions of the pix. On the other hand, Google does not infringe or contribute to infringement by hyperlinking to pirated images on other websites.
It's a thoughtful opinion on a very complex issue, and certain to be appealed. For a news report, see C|Net News; for some interesting commentary, see Infectious Greed.
