Western Union posted the following message on its website last week:
Effective January 27, 2006, Western Union will discontinue all Telegram and Commercial Messaging services. We regret any inconvenience this may cause you, and we thank you for your loyal patronage.

It is hard to grasp what a revolution it was when for the first time in history significant amounts of information could be sent faster than a person could travel at minor cost.
