DRM Watch notes that the topic came up at several panels at the recent World Economic Forum, including one specifically on "A New Democracy in Digital Rights Management."
One interesting comment:
Several panellists noted that consumers have an intuitive understanding of a balance about what is and is not fair regarding use of content. As Michael P. Schulhof, Chairman, Global Technology Investments, USA, pointed out, if a person pays once for a TV programme, "they expect to be able to view it on any television set. On the other hand, they don't expect to rebroadcast it to the neighbourhood." The question is how to make a system that helps strike this balance. This is cheering news because it means that consumers are still mature adults, who understand the need for property rights and limits on use, despite several years of copyleft agitprop that everything should be free.
