Great Moments in Invention

Today is the 72nd anniversary of the introduction by Proctor & Gamble of Draft, the first household detergent. However, only in 1946, with Tide, could a detergent deal with heavy soil. Tide sold so quickly that retailers rationed the amount a customer could buy.

A classic Julian Simon moment -- the application of human creativity to the raw stuff of nature to produce "miracle molecules" not theretofore available.
