Google and Sun announced today that they will cooperate in promoting the Google Toolbar, the Java Runtime Environment, and the OpenOffice.org productivity suite.
Clearly, this is connected to Sun's view that value is moving off of the desktop and on to the network, that people will increasingly buy "computing services" (not "software" or even "computers"). But I cannot fathom the nature of the implications here. Nor can Mr. Stock Market; after kicking Sun up by 12% on the news that an announcement of some sort of cooperation was coming, it promptly gave back half.
But Good Morning, Silicon Valley! is certainly happy.
