There wasn't much coverage in the U.S. media of the Australian trial of Kazaa, but there are plenty of stories now about how the P2P distributor was successfully sued by the music industry, was ordered to pay most of the plaintiffs' legal fees, and could have to pay significant compensation for copyright infringement. They were also ordered to incorporate filtering if they wish to continue in business. Kazaa is appealing.
Tony Healy passed on some links to us at IPcentral. Here's the Sydney Morning Herald's take. Kazaa's assets remain frozen. This is the judgment. One element that hurt Kazaa in the trial was its online efforts encouraging its users to "join the revolution" against the recording industry. APC Magazine's Garth Montgomery wrote a headline stating "The Revolution Gets Pimpslapped." Oh, the headline of this blog is how Montgomery concluded his eyewitness coverage of the trial.
