MA & Open Source

Massachusetts is on the verge of adopting a policy designed to force both state workers and people dealing with the state to use open source software programs as opposed to proprietary ones.

We stand on our view that open source software is a business model promoted by companies that want to commoditize operating systems and sell hardware and services. They have every right to adopt this approach and try to sell it, but governments should be neutral as between this model and one that sells software directly (and possibly commoditizes services and hardware).

PFF commented on the policy proposal, as did ACT and IPI.
