The US-China Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade (JCCT) met on July 11 in Beijing.
China agreed to an impressive list of specific actions to protect IP, including: Increased criminal prosecutions; reduced exports of infringing goods; enhanced cooperation between law enforcement authorities; expanded initiative to address piracy of movies and audio-visual products; actions to ensure use of legal software in the state-owned sector and to fight software end-user piracy; establishment of Chinese Embassy IPR ombudsman in the U.S.; action to rid trade fairs of fake goods; and enhanced protection for sound recordings.
According to a DOC press release, "Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez said progress is being made . . . but additional work is needed to further address U.S. concerns on a number of fronts."
