Lamar Smith, Chair of the IP Subcommittee of House Judiciary, introduced his patent reform bill, H.R. 2527, on Wednesday, and held hearings on Thursday. The bill largely tracks the committee print that has been circulating, with some adjustments.
Patently-O has a précis, and comments: "[T]his version still has something to offend almost every interest."
Smith spoke at a National Academy of Sciences conference on patents on Thursday. He simply described the contents of the bill, then declined questions on the ground that the political balance is so delicate that anything he said could upset it.
He wants to move to markup by the end of the month.
