Instead of reading Grokster briefs last night, I signed up for Napster's subscription music service. I also want Napster-To-Go, which lets you put music on a portable player, so I bought an iRiver 320. Patrick recently got a Creative Zen Micro, so now we can run some comparative product reviews here. (I already had a Dell Jukebox, but its hard disk died, the manual contained no info on the problem, and I could get no help from the website, by email, or by phone -- so into the trash it went.)
The Napster concept is great -- you rent the right to listen to music, on your computer and on a portable device. We will see how it works out. I am a classical fan, and the catalogue looks a bit Top-40 (Napster never heard of Arthur Foote!) and rather chaotic, so I am uncertain. Patrick is all blues all the time, which may be a richer vein.
